FACETRACKNOIR 2.0 REVIEW HOW TO
Up to you, but you get the ancillary benefits of making something cool to be proud of and learning basic electronics and how to solder.Īs for FaceTrackNoIR vs. I took the extra time to sow all the wires and LEDs into the hat so it looks nice, but that's optional. All for a total of about $25 including the hat. The PS3 Eye webcam cost me 15 bucks used, and I made an IR filter out of some fully exposed, developed color film negative (walked into a store, bought the film, pulled the film out of the canister, rolled it back up, had it developed, easy). I made my own head tracking hat, using 3 IR LEDs from Radio Shack (1.50 ea), a resistor I had from school (probably a buck at Radio Shack), and an old USB cable. There are literally thousands of tutorials on how to wire a simple LED circuit, and basic soldering (which isn't much harder than using hot glue). They're just little lumps of plastic lens with a diode inside, and two little wire terminals sticking out where you apply the power.Ī circuit to power the LEDs is literally just a battery (or stripped USB cable), a resistor, and the 2 or 3 LEDs, wired together in a loop. It's not like that, all LEDs are "premade". FlightGear support is built in, so you can look around in the FlightGear world by rotating your head. Movements of the head are registered by a simple web cam no additional hardware (eg. I can't compare with TrackIR since I never experienced it but I seriously doubt that with my 20€ setup anyone would look for the more expensive alternative.ĬL Eye drivers: Edited Jby _FlyingCircus_Īlright, is it possible to buy IR led's pre made (so I dont have to wire them myself)? FaceTrackNoIR is a headtracking program that uses the SeeingMachines FaceAPI. If done right you get smooth movements with no latency.
FACETRACKNOIR 2.0 REVIEW DRIVER
Make your own 3 point IR LEDs clip, buy a second hand PS3Eye that can run as fast as 180 fps with the CL Eye driver (even higher than the 120 fps in the latest version of TrackIR), download Opentrack, and be ready to spend some time configuring the whole thing. I proudly present you a software I haven’t contributed at all, brought you by some of the formers developers of Facetracknoir who seem the only active ones at this time, being such that the latest of the latest, the finest of the finest in head tracking: However2, you can skip the confusion of those forums and go right to the relevant thread:

You can find them in the development forums with instructions to make them work. However, Facetracknoir hasn’t seen any major change for some time, while some of its parts (such as the latest filters) have been upgraded while not available from the downloads section in their webpage. Facetracknoir was a poor choice when you had to rely only on face recognition, but they eventually included the Pointracker functionality, which allows it to work similarly to Freetrack. Freetrack has been forgotten for quite long.
